Florida Baton Twirlers Win Divisions at USTA 2009 National Championships and Festival of the Future

Florida Twirlers representing Rhapsody Baton were very successful at the July 2009 United States Twirling Associations National Championships and Festival of the Future held in Tucson, Arizona. The twirlers, coached by Tessah Ivey Ceballos ALL placed 1st in at least one of their respective divisions.

Adult competitors: Kathleen Peaslee won the Beginner 15+ Basic event, Elizabeth Delgado placed 1st overall in the Intermediate 19+ Ladies Solo.

Samantha S. placed 5th in 9-11 year old beginner presentation, 2^nd in the 9-10 year old Intermediate Presentation, 3^rd in 9-10 year old Beginner Two Baton, 2^nd in 9-10 year old beginner Strut and 3^rd in 8-9 year old Intermediate Strut.

Samantha S. was the overall winner in the Festival of Future 8-9 year old Intermediate Two Baton, 9-11 year old Beginner Three Baton, 9 year old Intermediate Three Baton and 8-9 year old Beginner Dance Twirl divisions. Coach Tessah and her teammates were so proud of her taking the first place positions in all of these events.

Samantha also competed in the National Championships top Advanced division and placed 2^nd in the 9 year olds Two Baton, 4^th in the 9-12 year old Three baton, 4^th in the 9 year old Strut and 6^th in the 9 year old Dance Twirl Divisions.

The young ladies had an excellent trip to Arizona and celebrated their great competition year by enjoying a traditional steak with cowboy fixings!

All of the hours of practice time the young ladies and Coach Ivey put in paid off. Miss Tessah’s favorite quote “Practice makes permanent!” If an athlete does not put the time in to perfect their routines or take the time to execute the material their coach gives them the correct way, it will show on the competition floor. The young ladies did well, because they were properly prepared with wonderful foundations, material and practice habits for the future!!

Rhapsody Baton 2009 Southeast Regional Twirl Team Champs!

2009 USTA SouthEast Regional Twirl Team Champions

Rhapsody Baton competed at the United States Twirling Associations 2009 SouthEast Regional Baton Twirling Championships held on June 13th in Celebration, FL.

The Program once again was able to field a team that won a Regional title at the SouthEast Regional meet. The “Pirates” captured the advanced overall Juvenile Twirl Team title with a Tennessee team trailing 8 points behind in the scoring for 2nd place and a Miami, FL team placing third place.

The “Love” Juvenile Dance Twirl team placed 2nd in the overall advanced Southeast Regional Divison, with a Tennessee team scoring 1st place and a Mississippi team placing third.

The newly formed adult senior team entered their “Taxi” Dance Twirl team in both the Open Beginner Senior Small Dance Twirl and the Intermediate Senior Small Dance Twirl. The Rhapsody Seniors were unopposed in both events and won the divisions. The adult team members look forward to the coming season as their skills grow and they have set their goal to enter a overall State Twirl Team division in 2010 to see how they measure up.

Celebration Baton Twirling at K-8 Carnival

Rhapsody Baton attended the Celebration K-8 Fall Carnival on Saturday, September 12th. The group donated water for sale at the event to assist with the school technology fundraiser.

During the fun filled day, the kids and parents were able to enjoy face painting, carnival rides, games, cakewalks along with the great carnival food! Cotton candy, pizza and popcorn were enjoyed by all. The crowd enjoyed watching all the would- be -twirlers playing different twirling games. Many of the children had never tried baton twirling before. They were very excited to see how fun and easy it is to learn.

Some of the young ladies registered at Kissimmee Charter Academy & Parks and Rec came out to show off their fun parade routine that they had just learned at class. Madison, Morgan, Emily and Kiersten all twirled with the “first timers” and helped them have fun trying out something new. Kiersten performed a special show for everyone, showcasing the new skills she has been working on for fall. A special thanks to former team twirler, Jianna, for volunteering to demonstrate her three baton juggles!

Getting Ready to Twirl

Registration is ongoing at Celebration location. The Baton I class is offered in the large activity room at 851 Celebration Avenue inside the Parks and Recreation/Community Center-which is right beside the gym. Parents and children may arrive at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays to try out their first class free and catch the excitment of twirling!

Windermere Baton Twirling Registration

Classes will begin for Windermere Baton Twirling Program on Monday, September 14th from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Students will meet after school outside at the Pavilion. All participants MUST be pre-registered either by phone or email prior to Friday, September 11th. A class roster must be submitted to Windermere school before classes begin on Monday, September 14th

Fun Florida Baton Twirling!

The Baton and Dance program will run 13 weeks from September through December. We follow the school schedule. Students will learn physical conditioning, stretches, baton twirls, different forms of dance (ballet, lyrical, jazz), dancetwirls and parades routines.

Participants have many performance opportunities, but none are required. They may choose to participate in the Celebration K-8 Fall Carnival, Founder’s Day, St. Cloud & Kissimmee Christmas Parades and our 11th annual Nutcracker Production in Downtown Celebration as the snow falls! All events are selected to be fun for the entire family.

Celebration Baton Twirling Registration

Monday, August 31st is the first day of baton twirling class for the fall session. Registration will take place at 5:30 p.m. while the students are having class. We have several instructors for our multi-class program. Meet at the Celebration K-8 Gymnasium between 5:15-5:30 p.m. Separate classes will be held for 3-5 year olds, 6 yr old through elementary grade 5, middle school & high school.

Class tuition is $40.00 per month. Students will learn physical conditioning, stretches, baton twirls, different forms of dance (ballet, lyrical, jazz), dancetwirls and parades routines. We also offer a special time for those 40+ to get together to enjoy baton on Tuesday evenings in the Celebration 851 Celebration Avenue activity room from 6:00-7:00 p.m.!

Participants have many performance opportunities, but none are required. They may choose to participate in the Celebration K-8 Fall Carnival, Founder’s Day, Veteran’s Dance, St. Cloud, Christmas Parade, Kissimmee Parade of Lights and our 11th annual Nutcracker Production in Downtown Celebration as the snow falls!

: Juvenile & Senior Florida State Dance Twirl Champions

competed at the United States Twirling Associations Florida State Championships in Poinciana, FL on May 2, 2009. Coach Tessah Ivey was very proud of how hard the athletes had worked to be prepared for the meet. Athletes from both Orange and Osceola County Florida stepped up to the challenge to land State Titles for the Osceola County based baton twirling program.

“We are so excited to have been able to have both age groups win the State Championship for their divisions” said Ivey. The Juvenile Twirl Team took the overall advanced division with their “Pirates” Program. Pirates has been hot on a winning streak for several competitions, including the prestigious “Twirl Mania Championships held in Orlando at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. The Senior Small Dance Twirl Team dominated in both the Beginner and Intermediate Divisions-winning both Team Titles.

Rhapsody’s 4th State contender, the juvenile dancetwirl team with its L.O.V.E. program was defeated in the Dance Twirl Division (placing 2nd overall) by the Flashettes, coached by Karen McKinney, out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. When asked about the upset, Coach Ivey commented “It’s nice when the team that places ahead of you is such a class act. Coach McKinney runs a tight ship. All of her team members display outstanding sportsmanship. We know they work just as hard as we do and want it just as bad. Our teams have a great respect for each other. In the end, you may not place 1st every time, so you have to be motivated to always just strive to make your best effort. Everything else will take care of itself.”

The individuals representing Rhapsody Baton Twirling from Kissimmee, St. Cloud, Celebration, Windermere and Dr. Phillips also had great success. Elizabeth Delgado won the Overall Advanced Adult Dance Twirl State Championship, Kathleen Peaslee won the overall Adult State Flag Championship, Kiersten & Samantha placed 2nd in the State Juvenile Pairs and Samantha won the overall advanced Juvenile Dance Twirl Championship.

Twirl Team Triumphs in Ft. Lauderdale

Rhapsody Baton and Dance competition team attended the United States Twirling Association’s Ft. Lauderdale competition on April 4, 2009. The young ladies were thrilled to win the Juvenile Small Twirl Team Division with their “Pirates” program. They are working hard to remain undefeated to take the State and Regional Title in that division.

Competing for the first time this season, the Senior Small Dance Twirl Team unveiled their new team members and choreography for “Beirut Taxi”. The program features numerous lyrical dance sections blended with unique roll entrances and cirque stylizing. Team Rhapsody would like to welcome Michelle Williams and Deric Vest as new team members. The Club was also excited with the return of former teammate Tricia Terrell. The best part of the day came when the Senior team won 1st place in their division. This meet was the first time the members had competed as a group together. They are off to a strong start for the season placing so well the first time out.

The individual competitiors again did the job in their appropriate age divisions. Placements for Military: Jessica 1st, Strut:Kathleen Peaslee 1st, Two Baton: Kiersten received a score of 4.2, Jessica received a score of 3.80. Solo:Kathleen Peaslee 1st with a score of 4.65, Jessica 1st, Kiersten 2nd, Michelle Williams 2nd, Flag:Kathleen Peaslee 1st with a score of 6.40. Michelle Williams 2nd score 5.80 Dance Twirl:Jessica 1st with a score of 5.0. Samantha scored 4.48, Kathleen Peaslee scored 5.10. Advanced Dance Twirl Pairs: Samantha & Kiersten 1st with a score of 3.85

Rhapsody Baton wins First Coast Championships 2009

Rhapsody Baton Team of Central Florida attend the First Coast Championships held in Jacksonville, FL on March 7th, 2009. The juvenile team once again won the Small Dance Twirl Division with their program to L-O-V-E .

The crowds were wowed by Rhapsody’s freestyle programs. Sam’s program to Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride showcased her ability to stretch and use Hawaiian dance blended with her baton contact androll sections. Miss Kathleen sparkled in her Carol of the Bells program. Her floor coverage and timing were very strong.

Kiersten & Sam (the 2008 National Dance Twirl Pairs Champions) unveiled their freestyle program “Best Friends” to the original music by QUEEN. When asked about competing together …Sam said “My favorite part of the routine is where Kiersten picks me up and we spin around!”. Kiersten said, “I love doing pairs with Sam because she is a good friend and it’s fun!”

Rhapsody continued to place strongly in individual events. Placements for Basic: Emily placed 3rd of 5. Grace 2nd of 9, Jessica 1st, Kathleen 1st, Strut: Elizabeth Delgado 1st, Two Baton: Sam received a score of 5.00, MK 4th of 6,

Kiersten 1st with a score of 4.42. Solo: MK 1st of 4 with a score of 4.53. Dance Twirl: MK 1st with a score of 4.99. Sam 2nd of 3.

The team is continuing to work toward their goal of capturing this years State and Regional Championships.

Rhapsody Baton Takes Twirl Mania Twirl Team Title

Rhapsody Baton competed at the prestigious Twirl Mania Competition at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL on February 15th, 2005. The Juvenile Small Twirl Team placed first in their division with the “Pirates” program. The young ladies did an excellent job of displaying twirling abilities. Their routine content showed ambidexterity in both right and left hands throughout the program with team exchanges, spin tricks, a variety of twirls in unison and with the baton rolling all over their upper bodies and arms without the use of their hands. Way to go girls! Keep up the practice & training for the State & Regional Championships.
