Team Rhapsody
- Juvenile & Senior Florida State Dance Twirl Champions
competed at the United States Twirling Associations Florida State Championships in Poinciana, FL on May 2, 2009. Coach Tessah Ivey was very proud of how hard the athletes had worked to be prepared for the meet. Athletes from both Orange and Osceola County Florida stepped up to the challenge to land State Titles for the Osceola County based baton twirling program.
“We are so excited to have been able to have both age groups win the State Championship for their divisions” said Ivey. The Juvenile Twirl Team took the overall advanced division with their “Pirates” Program. Pirates has been hot on a winning streak for several competitions, including the prestigious “Twirl Mania Championships held in Orlando at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. The Senior Small Dance Twirl Team dominated in both the Beginner and Intermediate Divisions-winning both Team Titles.
Rhapsody’s 4th State contender, the juvenile dancetwirl team with its L.O.V.E. program was defeated in the Dance Twirl Division (placing 2nd overall) by the Flashettes, coached by Karen McKinney, out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. When asked about the upset, Coach Ivey commented “It’s nice when the team that places ahead of you is such a class act. Coach McKinney runs a tight ship. All of her team members display outstanding sportsmanship. We know they work just as hard as we do and want it just as bad. Our teams have a great respect for each other. In the end, you may not place 1st every time, so you have to be motivated to always just strive to make your best effort. Everything else will take care of itself.”
The individuals representing Rhapsody Baton Twirling from Kissimmee, St. Cloud, Celebration, Windermere and Dr. Phillips also had great success. Elizabeth Delgado won the Overall Advanced Adult Dance Twirl State Championship, Kathleen Peaslee won the overall Adult State Flag Championship, Kiersten & Samantha placed 2nd in the State Juvenile Pairs and Samantha won the overall advanced Juvenile Dance Twirl Championship.
